Biron Castle
A giant in stone!
The castle, one of the largest in southwestern France, offers a panorama of more than thirty kilometres all the way round! This fortress is an icon of local architecture which spans a thousand years’ construction.
Like an open book, this castle tells the story of the extraordinary talent and fantastic inspiration of its builders. Today, the castle hosts many festive events: gastronomic markets, art exhibitions, shows and concerts, continuing its rich history that we invite you to experience and share within its walls.
Bourdeilles Castle
Two castles from very different eras!
The Château de Bourdeilles is, alongside Biron, Beynac and Mareuil, one of the four baronies of Périgord.
The first written accounts of Bourdeilles describe a stronghold, which in 1183 received monks who came to take refuge there with the relics of Saint-Sicaire. For several centuries, standing at the border between the crowns of France and England, the Château de Bourdeilles would weather many political and religious storms.
With the return of peace to the region, Jacquette de Montbron built the Renaissance castle next to the medieval fortress in the late sixteenth century. Bourdeilles then became a castle of leisure, a testament to the elegance of a new way of life.
Cadouin Cloister
A masterpiece of Flamboyant Gothic Art, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site!
Located in the forest of Bessède, the Cistercian abbey of Cadouin is now a Major Site in Aquitaine and is a listed Historic Monument.
Founded in 1115, the famous Abbey became affiliated to the Cistercian order in 1119. You can still see the abbey church and the Roman base of the convent buildings from this time.
The cloister is an architectural and decorative wonder, testifying to the splendour of the abbey at the end of the 15th century. Nearly ten centuries of history lie within these walls and make Cadouin a truly universal place, unchanging and serene.
